Privacy policy
How we look after your personal information, under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who we are
The responsible party is Masina Funerals (trading as Masina Funeral Service), registration number 2023/109295/07, of 146 Pietermaritz Street, CBD, Pietermaritzburg, 3201. In this policy, "we", "us" and "MFS" mean Masina Funerals.
Information Officer: [to be confirmed, name and email of the appointed Information Officer]. You can reach us on 033 342 1278 or at info@masinafuneralservices.co.za.
What information we collect
- Contact details you give us, your name, phone number and email, when you request a callback, enquire about a plan, or contact us.
- Details of the deceased and the family that we need in order to arrange a funeral or complete registration and claims, for example identity numbers, dates, and next-of-kin details. Some of this is special personal information, and we handle it with particular care.
- Enquiry content, anything you choose to tell us in a message.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your information only to:
- Respond to your enquiry and call you back.
- Arrange and provide funeral services and plans you ask for.
- Complete death registration, and prepare SASSA, UIF, insurance or burial-society claims on your behalf, where you ask us to.
- Meet our legal obligations.
We rely on your consent (which you give by submitting the form and ticking the consent box), on the performance of the service you have asked for, and on our legal obligations. We do not use your details for marketing unless you separately agree, and we never sell your information.
Who we share it with
We share only what is necessary, and only with:
- Government departments and offices where required to register a death or lodge a claim (for example Home Affairs, SASSA, the Department of Employment and Labour).
- Service providers who help us deliver the funeral (for example a receiving undertaker for repatriation).
- Insurers or burial societies, where you ask us to work with them on a claim.
We do not otherwise disclose your information, except where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only for as long as we need it to help you and to meet our legal and record-keeping obligations, after which we securely delete or destroy it. [Confirm the specific retention period MFS applies.]
How we protect it
We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe and to prevent loss, misuse or unauthorised access. Enquiries you send through this website are handled securely.
Cookies and this website
This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies. Where we embed a map from Google Maps, Google may set its own cookies, that is governed by Google's privacy policy, not ours.
Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, and to withdraw your consent. To exercise any of these, contact our Information Officer using the details above.
If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za, or by email to the Regulator's complaints address.
